Both Teams To Score – Yes

Betis welcome Real Madrid to Estadio La Cartuja on Friday night for an early test of both teams’ La Liga ambitions.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side began the season with consecutive 1-0 wins over Real Sociedad and Valencia, but that defensive work was undone by a 5-2 defeat at Levante. Betis equalised twice before half-time and then conceded three more goals after the break.

Real Madrid have made a far more convincing start. José Mourinho’s team have taken nine points from nine and scored 10 goals in three league matches, including four against both Real Sociedad and Málaga. Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham give Madrid the pace and finishing ability to punish the problems Betis showed last weekend.

Betis have an impressive recent home record and cannot be dismissed, but Madrid’s attacking form makes the handicap worth considering. Our prediction is 1-3, with Real Madrid -1 Asian Handicap at odds of 2.05 our best bet.

Match Preview

Betis’ first three league games have produced two very different versions of Pellegrini’s team. They were disciplined and patient during 1-0 victories over Real Sociedad and Valencia, defending well enough to record consecutive clean sheets and finding winning goals through quick attacks.

The performance at Levante was completely different. Betis responded well enough with goals from Marc Bartra and Rodrigo Riquelme, but they struggled badly against crosses, set pieces and second balls. Pellegrini was blunt in his assessment afterwards, describing the defending as a disaster.

That result should bring changes or, at the very least, a renewed focus on the back four. Bartra and Natan could continue in central defence, with Héctor Bellerín and Fran García operating at full-back. Facundo Bernal has started every league match and will have an important job screening that defence when Madrid win the ball in advanced positions.

Betis still have enough attacking quality to cause problems. Antony likes to cut inside from the right, while Riquelme has scored twice from the opposite flank. Isco or Pablo Fornals can play behind the striker, and Cucho Hernández offers movement on the break after assisting the winner against Real Sociedad. Troy Parrott is another option through the middle.

The difficulty is that Betis must find the right balance. Pushing both full-backs forward would support Antony and Riquelme, but it could leave space for Vinícius and Madrid’s right-sided attacker. Sitting too deep would invite pressure from a team that have already shown they can win possession high up the pitch.

Real Madrid arrive with three league victories and plenty of competition for places. Mourinho rotated against Málaga, bringing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rüdiger, Marc Cucurella, Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz into the starting side, yet Madrid still won 4-0.

Mbappé has four league goals, including a hat-trick against Real Sociedad, and is surrounded by players who can attack from different areas. Vinícius carries the ball from the left, Bellingham has greater freedom behind the striker and Arda Güler can move inside from the right. Federico Valverde gives Madrid running power in midfield, with Bernardo Silva or Camavinga available to play alongside him.

Mourinho has asked for aggressive pressing and high recoveries, which could be especially important here. Betis want to build through Bernal, Marc Roca and their number ten, but mistakes in that area would give Madrid’s front line immediate chances. Bellingham opened the scoring against Málaga after Madrid regained possession high up the pitch.

Betis do have two points in their favour. They have won their last four competitive home games, while Madrid have failed to win on their last four league visits to this opponent. Pellegrini’s team also have enough pace to test a Madrid defence that has been regularly rotated. However, Friday’s hosts must recover quickly from conceding five goals and also have a Champions League trip to Lille four days later.

Why Real Madrid -1 Asian Handicap Makes Sense

The straight Real Madrid win is the most likely result, but the -1 Asian Handicap at 2.05 gives us a better price. Madrid need to win by two or more goals for the bet to land in full. If they win by exactly one, the stake is returned. A draw or Betis victory would lose the bet.

Madrid’s attacking start supports this approach. They have scored twice at Espanyol and then hit four goals in successive home victories. Mbappé is finishing chances, Vinícius is creating from the left and Bellingham is arriving around the box at the right moments. That is a difficult combination for any defence, particularly one coming off a game in which it conceded five.

The tactical matchup also favours Madrid. Betis’ full-backs are encouraged to get forward, leaving spaces that Vinícius, Mbappé and Güler can attack when possession changes hands. If Pellegrini tells his side to defend deeper, Madrid have Bellingham, Bernardo Silva and their full-backs to help work openings against a lower block.

There is a clear risk. Betis are unbeaten in their last five competitive home matches and held Madrid to a 1-1 draw at La Cartuja in April. Real Madrid have also gone four league visits to Betis without winning. This is not a straightforward away fixture, which is why the protection offered by the Asian line matters.

Even so, Madrid’s current front line looks capable of creating more than Betis can contain. A narrow away victory would return the stake, while a two-goal margin gives us a full win at 2.05. From a betting point of view, that makes the handicap more appealing than taking a shorter price on the match winner.

Team News

Betis have no reported suspensions, but Aitor Ruibal remains sidelined following knee surgery and Giovani Lo Celso is doubtful with a muscular problem. Goalkeeper Diego Conde has also been recovering from a shoulder injury, leaving Álvaro Valles as the expected starter.

Abde Ezzalzouli returned from the bench at Levante and gives Pellegrini another option on the left. Dani Ceballos trained after completing his move from Real Madrid and has declared himself available, although his limited time with the squad makes a substitute appearance more likely than an immediate start. Cucho Hernández could replace Parrott at centre-forward, while Fornals is an option instead of Isco in the number ten role.

Real Madrid are expected to remain without several players who were still following recovery programmes earlier in the week. Aurélien Tchouaméni, Éder Militão, Raúl Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo, Endrick and Thiago Pitarch had not returned to full training by 2 September.

Mourinho can still freshen up the team that beat Málaga. Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva and Arda Güler are all candidates to return after starting the opening two league games. Antonio Rüdiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Camavinga and Brahim Díaz remain strong alternatives following their involvement in the latest victory.

Possible Starting Lineups

Betis Possible XI

Álvaro Valles; Héctor Bellerín, Marc Bartra, Natan, Fran García; Facundo Bernal, Marc Roca; Antony, Pablo Fornals, Rodrigo Riquelme; Cucho Hernández

Real Madrid Possible XI

Thibaut Courtois; Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Dean Huijsen, Marc Cucurella; Federico Valverde, Bernardo Silva; Arda Güler, Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior; Kylian Mbappé

Players to Watch

Rodrigo Riquelme — Betis

Riquelme has been Betis’ main early scorer, finding the net against Real Sociedad and Levante. He starts from the left but regularly moves into central positions, which could test Madrid’s right-back and create space for Fran García to overlap.

Facundo Bernal — Betis

Bernal has started all three league games and will be central to Betis’ defensive plan. He must protect the centre-backs, compete for second balls and help the home side play through Madrid’s press without giving possession away in dangerous areas.

Kylian Mbappé — Real Madrid

Four goals in three league appearances make Mbappé the obvious danger. His pace between the centre-back and full-back could be especially damaging if Betis push forward, while his movement in the penalty area will test a defence that struggled with deliveries at Levante.

Jude Bellingham — Real Madrid

Bellingham has two goals and two assists in the opening three league matches. Mourinho is allowing him greater freedom behind Mbappé, and his pressing, ball carrying and late runs should make him difficult for Betis’ midfield to track.

Head-to-Head

The most recent meeting finished Betis 1-1 Real Madrid at La Cartuja in April 2026, when Bellerín scored a stoppage-time equaliser. Earlier that season, Madrid recorded a convincing 5-1 home victory, while Betis won this fixture 2-1 in March 2025.

Real Madrid are winless in their last four league visits to Betis, recording three draws and one defeat. Those meetings include two 1-1 draws and a goalless draw, so Mourinho’s side will need to improve on a poor recent record in Seville if they are to cover the handicap.

Final Verdict

Betis’ home form and recent record against Madrid make this a tougher assignment than the league table might suggest. Pellegrini’s side have won four consecutive competitive home games and have enough attacking talent to score, particularly through Riquelme, Antony and Cucho.

The stronger case still belongs to Real Madrid. They are pressing well, creating chances through several different players and have scored 10 times in three matches. Betis’ problems against Levante were too serious to ignore with Mbappé, Vinícius and Bellingham arriving at La Cartuja.

The main danger is a narrow Madrid win, but that result would return the stake on the Asian Handicap. If the visitors score first and force Betis to open up, their speed on the break can produce the two-goal margin required. At 2.05, Real Madrid -1 Asian Handicap is worth backing, with Betis 1-3 Real Madrid the correct-score prediction.

FreeOddsTips Prediction

Real Madrid’s attacking form should eventually tell against a Betis defence looking to recover from a five-goal collapse. The home side can contribute to the scoring, but Madrid have the quality and speed to pull clear after the interval.
