Konyaspor welcome Trabzonspor to the Medaş Konya Büyükşehir Stadium for Süper Lig Matchweek 5 on Saturday evening. İlhan Palut’s side are already under real pressure after losing each of their opening four league games, leaving them bottom of the table with just three goals scored and eight conceded.

Trabzonspor arrive in far better spirits. Hüseyin Çimşir’s first game back as interim boss produced a 5-0 win over Gençlerbirliği, with Paul Onuachu scoring twice and Mohamed Salah, Ernest Muçi and Franculino Djú also on the scoresheet.

The away side have had problems on the road already this season, but their attacking performance last weekend was a reminder of the quality available. Salah has four league goals, Aral Şimşir supplied an excellent cross for Onuachu, and Djú made an immediate impact from the bench.

Konyaspor have enough attacking options to make their home support believe, particularly with Diogo Gonçalves, Jackson Muleka and Deniz Türüç in the squad. However, they need to turn promising moments into points quickly. Our prediction is Konyaspor 1-3 Trabzonspor, with Trabzonspor to Win at odds of 2.00 our best bet.

Match Preview

Konyaspor’s start has been difficult in every sense. They lost 1-0 at Erzurumspor FK last time out, having previously been beaten by Kocaelispor, Fenerbahçe and Çaykur Rizespor. Palut was unhappy with his side’s level in the physical battle at Erzurumspor, even though they created chances through Gonçalves, Melih İbrahimoğlu and Muleka. Melih hit the bar after the break, while Muleka saw a header saved.

The problem is that Konyaspor have not found a settled way of combining their new players. They have used a 4-2-3-1 in their last three league matches, with Marko Jevtović and Melih forming the midfield base. Gonçalves has been a regular on the left of the advanced line, while Muleka can operate wide or centrally. Enis Destan started up front at Erzurumspor, but Mostafa Mohamed was introduced at half-time and gives Palut another decision to make.

At home, Konyaspor have lost 0-1 to Rizespor and 1-2 to Kocaelispor. They cannot afford another slow start against a Trabzonspor team full of confidence. Adil Demirbağ and Rayyan Baniya will have a demanding evening if Trabzonspor continue to get quality service into their centre-forward.

Trabzonspor’s 5-0 result against Gençlerbirliği came after a disappointing 2-1 league defeat at Amed and a heavy Europa League playoff elimination against Ferencváros. That makes the response especially important. Çimşir changed three players from the Amed match, brought in Wagner Pina, Ozan Tufan and Aral Şimşir, and his side played with far more purpose.

The attacking shape worked well. Fabinho and Ozan gave Trabzonspor control in central areas, Muçi found pockets behind the striker, and Salah and Aral attacked from either side. Aral’s cross created Onuachu’s first goal, while Pina supplied the low delivery for his second. Salah converted a penalty, Muçi added the fourth, and Djú scored after replacing Onuachu before half-time.

That front line can cause real problems for Konyaspor. Salah is the main league scorer with four goals in four matches, but Trabzonspor are not relying on one player. Muçi adds a goal threat from the No. 10 role, Aral gives them width and delivery, and Djú has shown he is ready if Onuachu is not fit enough to start. The key is whether they can carry that same authority into an away fixture after conceding in both of their league trips so far.

Why Trabzonspor to Win Makes Sense

Trabzonspor are not a perfect away side, so the price matters. At 2.00, though, the straight win is worth backing because the gap in confidence and attacking output between these teams is clear going into Matchweek 5.

Konyaspor have lost all four league games and have not kept a clean sheet. They conceded twice against Fenerbahçe and Kocaelispor, while their latest 1-0 defeat at Erzurumspor again showed that creating a few chances has not been enough. Palut’s side have scored only three league goals, one of which was an own goal against Kocaelispor.

Trabzonspor have scored nine league goals in four matches and come here fresh from putting five past Gençlerbirliği. Salah, Onuachu, Muçi, Aral and Djú give Çimşir several ways to hurt opponents. Salah can cut inside from the right, Aral can deliver early from the left, and Onuachu or Djú can occupy the centre-backs in the box.

The main risk is Trabzonspor’s away record. They drew at Kasımpaşa and lost at Amed in their two league visits, while Konyaspor have beaten them in each of the last two league meetings in Konya. Still, the home side’s current four-match losing run is hard to ignore. If Trabzonspor start with the same energy and attacking width they showed last weekend, they should create enough to take all three points.

Team News

Konyaspor have been working under İlhan Palut on defensive and attacking organisation ahead of this game. Their goalkeeper selection has changed during the opening rounds, with Bahadır Han Güngördü starting against Erzurumspor after Deniz Ertaş featured in the two previous league fixtures.

Arthur Masuaku, Ebrima Colley and Enis Destan were all replaced at half-time last weekend, so Palut could freshen up his side. Deniz Türüç, Rajmund Tóth and Mostafa Mohamed are credible options to come into the XI, while recent signing Ahmet Oğuz has joined full training. Enis Bardhi missed the Erzurumspor match after his red card against Kocaelispor, but his status for this match is not confirmed here.

Trabzonspor are without Noah Saviolo because of a shoulder injury. Onuachu scored twice against Gençlerbirliği but was taken off in the 43rd minute amid a reported muscle concern, making him a player to monitor before kick-off. Djú is the obvious replacement after scoring on his competitive debut.

Çimşir has other options in midfield and defence, with Melih Kabasakal, Metehan Mimaroğlu, Samet Akaydin and Sidny Lopes Cabral all used from the bench in the 5-0 win. Fabinho, Muçi and Nwaiwu were booked in that match, but there is no confirmed suspension for this fixture.

Players to Watch

Mohamed Salah — Trabzonspor

Salah has four league goals already, including the penalty against Gençlerbirliği. He starts from the right but is always a threat when he moves into central scoring areas, and Konyaspor have struggled to keep opponents out.

Aral Şimşir — Trabzonspor

Aral made a strong impression in the latest win, supplying the cross for Onuachu’s opening header. His pace and delivery could test Konyaspor’s defensive line, especially if Trabzonspor can get Pina forward on the overlap.

Diogo Gonçalves — Konyaspor

Gonçalves has started all four league games and remains one of Konyaspor’s most regular attacking outlets. He was involved in their better moments at Erzurumspor and needs to provide more end product from wide areas.

Jackson Muleka — Konyaspor

Muleka has also started every league match and can offer a direct threat in and around the box. His saved header last weekend showed Konyaspor can create from wide deliveries, which may be their best route against Trabzonspor.

Head-to-Head

The most recent meeting was the Turkish Cup final in May, when Trabzonspor won 2-1 and lifted the trophy. Konyaspor won the latest league meeting in Konya by the same scoreline in April, however, and Trabzonspor have lost their last two league visits to this ground.

The last five listed meetings produced three Trabzonspor wins and two Konyaspor wins. Four of those five games produced at least three goals, so recent meetings have generally offered chances at both ends.

Final Verdict

Konyaspor are at home and will be desperate to stop the losing run, but their early-season performances have left too many doubts. They have conceded in every league game, their goalkeeper situation has rotated, and Palut is still trying to settle a side containing several recent arrivals.

Trabzonspor’s away form is the obvious concern, particularly given their recent league defeats in Konya. Yet the 5-0 win over Gençlerbirliği showed how dangerous this new attacking group can be when Salah, Aral, Muçi and the central striker click. At 2.00, Trabzonspor to Win is the selection, with a competitive home effort likely to end in a 1-3 away win.

FreeOddsTips Prediction

Trabzonspor should have too much attacking quality for a Konyaspor side still searching for its first point of the campaign. The visitors must improve on their early away results, but their latest performance gives plenty of reason to expect a more convincing display in Konya.
