Lecce welcome Roma to Stadio Via del Mare on Monday evening as both teams look to build on winning starts to the new Serie A season.
The hosts opened their league campaign with a 2-0 victory away against newly promoted Venezia, although the final scoreline did not tell the entire story. Venezia controlled large parts of the match and had two goals ruled out before Lecce punished them in the second half.
Roma’s opening performance was far more convincing.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side demolished Fiorentina 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, with Donyell Malen scoring a hat-trick and Paulo Dybala providing the assist for all three goals.
Roma already looked extremely dangerous going forward, and with the visitors also possessing an excellent recent record against Lecce, I expect their quality to eventually prove decisive.
Our best bet is Roma -1 Asian Handicap at odds of 2.10, with a 0-2 away victory our correct-score prediction.
Prediction Summary
Our prediction: Lecce 0-2 Roma
Roma could hardly have made a stronger statement on the opening weekend.
Gasperini’s team brushed Fiorentina aside 4-0, and the attacking partnership between Malen and Dybala was the biggest positive.
Malen scored three.
Dybala created all three.
That combination gives Roma a completely different level of attacking quality to what Lecce faced against Venezia.
Lecce deserve credit for starting their season with three points, but their 2-0 victory was considerably less comfortable than the score suggests. Venezia enjoyed plenty of possession, created opportunities and had two goals disallowed.
Roma should punish those defensive openings much more effectively.
The visitors have also won their last three meetings against Lecce without conceding, while Lecce’s last league victory against Roma dates all the way back to 2012.
The -1 Asian line gives us useful protection if Roma only win narrowly.

Match Preview
Roma finished last season with enormous momentum.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s first campaign ultimately delivered Champions League qualification after the Giallorossi surged into third place, and their opening performance of 2026-27 suggested that momentum has carried straight into the new season.
Fiorentina were supposed to provide a serious opening test at the Stadio Olimpico.
Instead, Roma destroyed them 4-0.
The standout performer was Donyell Malen.
The Dutch forward produced a clinical hat-trick, but just as impressive was the player operating around him.
Paulo Dybala assisted all three of Malen’s goals.
That relationship already looks extremely interesting.
Dybala’s ability to find space between midfield and defence allows Malen to attack the areas behind the opposition back line, and Fiorentina simply could not deal with the movement of Roma’s front players.
Niccolo Pisilli eventually added the fourth goal to complete an outstanding opening-night performance.
It was particularly encouraging following an inconsistent pre-season.
Roma are preparing for Champions League football again and Gasperini now appears to have a squad capable of competing across several competitions.
Before worrying about Europe, though, there is an opportunity to make a perfect start domestically.
And Lecce have traditionally been favourable opponents.
Roma have won the last three meetings without conceding a single goal, while their last Serie A defeat against Lecce came in April 2012.
The hosts at least arrive with confidence of their own.
Lecce began the campaign by beating Venezia 2-0 away from home.
On paper, that looks like an excellent result.
The actual performance was less convincing.
Venezia dominated possession for significant periods and had two goals ruled out, but Lecce remained organised, survived the difficult moments and were clinical when opportunities appeared after the break.
That ability to stay compact will be essential on Monday.
Eusebio Di Francesco knows that attempting to play an open game against Roma could be extremely dangerous, particularly after watching what Malen and Dybala did against Fiorentina.
There is another concerning statistic for the Lecce coach.
Di Francesco has faced Roma 16 times in Serie A and has picked up only three points, losing each of the last ten encounters.
Roma therefore arrive with superior individual quality, excellent momentum and an extremely favourable recent H2H record.
That’s why I favour the visitors.

Why Roma -1 Asian Handicap Makes Sense
I prefer the Asian handicap rather than simply backing Roma to win.
With Roma -1 at odds of 2.10:
Roma win by 2+ goals → Bet wins
Roma win by exactly 1 goal → Stake returned
Draw or Lecce win → Bet loses
That protection makes the selection particularly interesting.
Lecce are at home and have already demonstrated that they can remain competitive even when the opposition creates pressure.
But Roma possess far more attacking quality than Venezia.
The biggest reason is the partnership between Malen and Dybala.
Malen scoring a hat-trick is obviously impressive.
But Dybala assisting all three goals is perhaps even more significant for this bet because it shows how naturally the two players are already combining.
Roma do not need to rely on isolated individual moments.
They are creating structured attacking situations that allow their most dangerous players to operate in favourable positions.
There is also the recent H2H.
Roma have won the previous three meetings without conceding.
Lecce have not beaten them in Serie A since 2012.
And Di Francesco’s personal record against his former club is extremely poor.
The other factor is momentum.
Including the end of last season, Roma have now won six consecutive Serie A matches.
This is not simply one impressive opening performance.
Gasperini has built a team that finished last season strongly and has immediately continued that run.
Our expected score of 0-2 gives Roma exactly the two-goal margin required to land the handicap.
Even if Lecce make the game more difficult and Roma only win 0-1 or 1-2, the -1 Asian line returns our stake.
At 2.10, that makes Roma -1 an attractive way of backing the stronger team.

Team News
Roma’s biggest selection question may simply be whether Gasperini changes anything after such an impressive opening performance.
Donyell Malen and Paulo Dybala should continue together after destroying Fiorentina.
Summer signing Santiago Castro provides additional competition in attack, but breaking up the Malen-Dybala combination after their opening performance would be a surprise.
Rodrigo Mora and Konstantinos Koulierakis were also involved against Fiorentina and could retain their places.
Nahuel Molina remained on the bench in the opener, with Emanuele Lulli preferred at wing-back, and those two could again compete for a starting position.
Devyne Rensch has been dealing with a flexor problem.
Lecce have concerns over Antonino Gallo, who was forced off during the victory against Venezia after suffering a heavy blow to his cheekbone.
Corrie Ndaba replaced him and could start if Gallo is unavailable.
Medon Berisha is also considered a doubt.
Further forward, Willem Geubbels should again lead the attack as Lecce search for a way through a Roma defence that has been excellent recently.
Lecce Possible XI
Falcone; Veiga, Gaspar, Gabriel, Ndaba; Ngom, Coulibaly, Gorter; Pierotti, Geubbels, N’Dri
Roma Possible XI
Svilar; Mancini, Ndicka, Hermoso; Lulli, Kone, Cristante, Wesley; Mora, Dybala; Malen
Players to Watch
Donyell Malen
There is only one place to start.
Malen opened his Serie A campaign with a hat-trick against Fiorentina and immediately demonstrated why he could become one of Roma’s most important attacking players this season.
His movement behind defenders combined perfectly with Dybala’s creativity.
If Lecce defend too aggressively or leave spaces when trying to counter, Malen can punish them.
Paulo Dybala
Dybala did not need to score against Fiorentina to dominate the game.
He assisted all three of Malen’s goals, demonstrating the creative quality that makes Roma’s attack so difficult to defend.
If Lecce sit deep, his ability to operate between the lines could become particularly important.
Niccolo Pisilli
Pisilli added Roma’s fourth goal against Fiorentina and gives Gasperini another player capable of arriving late into dangerous attacking positions.
That secondary scoring threat means Lecce cannot concentrate exclusively on Roma’s forwards.
Willem Geubbels
Lecce will probably have fewer opportunities, which makes efficiency crucial.
Geubbels should again be an important part of their attack and may need to convert one of a limited number of chances if the hosts are going to trouble Roma.
Head-to-Head
Roma have dominated this fixture in recent years.
The Giallorossi have won their last three matches against Lecce without conceding.
Lecce’s last Serie A victory against Roma came back in April 2012.
The coaching H2H is also interesting.
Eusebio Di Francesco has faced Roma 16 times in Serie A and collected only three points, while losing each of his last ten meetings with his former club.
That history does not decide Monday’s game.
But combined with Roma’s current form and superior attacking quality, it strengthens the case for the visitors.
Final Verdict
Lecce deserve respect after winning their opening match.
Going away to Venezia and returning with a 2-0 victory is a strong result, regardless of how much pressure they had to absorb.
But Roma represent a completely different challenge.
Gasperini’s side finished last season strongly and immediately continued that momentum by destroying Fiorentina 4-0.
Most importantly, their attack already looks dangerous.
Malen scored three goals and Dybala assisted all three.
That partnership alone could cause Lecce serious problems.
Roma also have the stronger squad, the better recent form and an excellent record in this fixture.
I expect Lecce to defend compactly and make Roma work for the breakthrough rather than producing an end-to-end game.
But over 90 minutes, Roma should create enough.
The -1 Asian line is ideal because we retain protection if the visitors only win by one goal, while a two-goal victory gives us the full return at attractive 2.10 odds.
Our correct-score prediction is Lecce 0-2 Roma.
