Chelsea travel across west London to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday night in what looks like one of the most interesting games of Premier League Matchweek 5.
The Blues have been one of the most entertaining teams in England under Xabi Alonso. They have already scored 10 goals in four league matches, but the problem is obvious at the other end — Chelsea have also conceded nine, with every Premier League opponent scoring at least twice against them so far.
That defensive record makes Brentford dangerous. Keith Andrews’ side are still unbeaten after four league games and have shown they can create plenty of chances, particularly through Kevin Schade and from set pieces. But Chelsea simply possess more individual quality in the final third, and Brentford’s defensive injury list could become important.
At 2.60, I think the price is big enough to back the Blues despite their defensive problems.
Our prediction is Brentford 1-3 Chelsea.

Match Preview
Chelsea have become almost impossible to ignore this season.
Four Premier League matches under Xabi Alonso have already produced 19 total goals, more than any other team’s matches in the division. Chelsea have scored 10 of those themselves, with Cole Palmer, João Pedro and Morgan Rogers forming a dangerous new attacking trio.
The problem is that Chelsea simply cannot stop conceding.
They opened the campaign with a wild 3-2 victory at Fulham, followed that by a 4-3 win over Brighton, lost 2-1 at Arsenal and then drew 2-2 at home against Hull City.
Ten scored. Nine conceded.
The Hull performance summed Chelsea up perfectly.
Morgan Rogers gave the Blues the lead before defensive mistakes allowed Hull back into the game. João Pedro eventually rescued a point, but Chelsea again failed to protect themselves defensively despite controlling large periods.
That is obviously a concern before facing a Brentford side that has yet to lose this season.

Brentford have started well.
They produced an excellent 3-0 home victory over Tottenham on the opening weekend and have followed that with three consecutive draws against Leeds, Sunderland and Bournemouth.
Last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth again showed their resilience. Brentford managed only two shots on target but Kevin Schade scored twice to rescue a point.
Schade has quickly become their biggest attacking threat, scoring three league goals from ten shots, while Vitaly Janelt has already scored twice.
Brentford also offer a completely different type of threat to Chelsea.
They lead the Premier League for shots from set pieces this season with 30, while only Leeds have generated more set-piece xG. Chelsea’s defensive uncertainty makes those situations particularly dangerous.
But there is another side to this matchup.
Brentford are missing several defenders.
Nathan Collins and Sepp van den Berg are both unavailable, while Mathias Jensen will also miss the match. Josh Dasilva, Antoni Milambo and Kaye Furo remain sidelined too.
That is not ideal preparation when Palmer, Rogers, João Pedro and Pedro Neto are coming to town.
Why Chelsea to Win Makes Sense
Chelsea at 2.60 is not a safe bet.
Their defence has been far too open to describe it that way.
But I think there is value in the price.
Chelsea have scored at least twice in three of their first four Premier League games and currently lead the division for shots on target per 90 minutes.
They are also the league’s most dangerous counterattacking side so far, producing more shots and goals on the break than anyone else.
That could matter against Brentford.
The Bees will not simply sit inside their own penalty area for 90 minutes. They play forward quickly and have been aggressive under Keith Andrews, which should create space for Chelsea’s forwards when possession turns over.
And Chelsea’s front line looks frightening when there is space.
João Pedro already has three goals and three assists, while Morgan Rogers has started brilliantly following his move from Aston Villa. Palmer remains the player capable of deciding a match with one pass or finish.
Brentford deserve plenty of respect, especially at home.
But their defensive absences are significant, and I think Chelsea have enough attacking quality to eventually overpower them.
The biggest concern is Chelsea conceding again.
That is why 1-3 makes more sense to me than predicting a clean sheet.
At 2.60, I am happy backing Chelsea rather than looking for a handicap.

Team News
Brentford have several confirmed absentees.
Nathan Collins, Sepp van den Berg, Josh Dasilva, Antoni Milambo and Kaye Furo remain sidelined, while Mathias Jensen will also miss the match.
That leaves Keith Andrews with fewer defensive options than he would like.
Kevin Schade should retain his place after scoring twice at Bournemouth, with Jaidon Anthony and Igor Thiago also expected to feature in attack.
Chelsea have several fitness decisions to make.
João Pedro, Reece James and Moisés Caicedo have all had fitness concerns during the week. Alonso said ahead of the final training session that nobody had definitively been ruled out, although João Pedro remains one of the biggest doubts.
If João Pedro cannot start, Danny Welbeck is an option through the middle.
Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer should remain central to Chelsea’s attacking setup.
Possible Starting Lineups
Brentford:
Kelleher; Lewis-Potter, Ajer, Schuster, Hickey; Janelt, Sangare; Schade, Yarmoliuk, Anthony; Igor Thiago
Chelsea:
Martinez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Hato; James, Lavia; Pedro Neto, Palmer, Rogers; João Pedro
Players to Watch
Cole Palmer — Chelsea
Palmer remains Chelsea’s main creative player.
He has already produced two goals and two assists this season while recording 15 shots and creating nine chances.
Brentford’s defensive absences could give him more space between the midfield and back line, particularly if Chelsea can move the ball quickly through transitions.
Morgan Rogers — Chelsea
Rogers has made an immediate impact after his big-money summer move.
He scored against Hull last weekend and forms part of a Chelsea front three that has already contributed heavily to the club’s 10 league goals.
His ability to drive directly at defenders could be particularly useful against a Brentford defence missing Nathan Collins and Sepp van den Berg.
Kevin Schade — Brentford
Schade is the obvious Brentford danger.
He scored twice at Bournemouth and already has three Premier League goals this season.
Chelsea have struggled badly defending transitions, so Schade’s pace could cause serious problems if the Blues lose possession high up the pitch.
Head-to-Head
Brentford caused Chelsea plenty of problems when they first returned to the Premier League, but the balance has started to change.
Chelsea are now unbeaten in their last five Premier League meetings with Brentford, recording two wins and three draws.
Last season’s meeting at the Gtech finished 2-2.
Kevin Schade gave Brentford the lead before Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo turned the game around, only for Fabio Carvalho to equalise in stoppage time.
Interestingly, the last four Premier League meetings at Brentford have all finished as draws.
That shows exactly why Chelsea at 2.60 is not straightforward.
But I think this version of Chelsea carries more attacking firepower than previous sides.
Final Verdict
Brentford are good.
They are unbeaten, difficult to play against and their set-piece threat should be taken seriously against a Chelsea defence that simply cannot keep opponents out.
There is every chance Brentford score.
But I still believe Chelsea are the better team.
Palmer, Rogers, João Pedro and Pedro Neto give Alonso a level of attacking quality Brentford will find extremely difficult to contain, particularly with several defenders missing.
Chelsea’s last two results — losing at Arsenal and drawing with Hull — explain why we can get 2.60 on them here.
For me, that is where the value lies.
The Blues have enough attacking quality to score two or three even if they concede again themselves.
I expect an open west London derby, with Brentford having their moments but Chelsea eventually pulling away.
