Buxton host newly-promoted Hebburn Town at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an intriguing National League North clash where the betting market appears significantly more confident in the hosts than the early-season performances suggest.

Buxton have collected four points from their opening three league matches, while Hebburn remain unbeaten with seven points after following promotion with an excellent start to life at the higher level. With Hebburn already proving competitive against established National League North opposition, Hebburn Town +1 Asian Handicap at odds of 2.10 looks like an attractive value bet.

Prediction Summary

Our prediction: Buxton 1-1 Hebburn Town

Buxton are strong at the Silverlands and reached the National League North play-offs last season, but backing them at extremely short odds looks difficult to justify against an unbeaten Hebburn side.

The visitors opened with a 3-1 victory over Southport, earned a 1-1 draw away to Brackley and then produced perhaps their most impressive result yet by beating previously perfect Worksop Town 1-0.

Buxton, meanwhile, have taken four points from three games and are also dealing with the significant absence of captain Connor Kirby after he suffered a broken leg in the opening fixture.

At 2.10, Hebburn +1 gives us valuable protection: a Hebburn win or draw lands the bet in full, while a one-goal Buxton victory returns the stake.

Match Preview

Buxton entered the new National League North campaign with legitimate promotion ambitions after reaching the play-offs last season.

The Bucks finished strongly in 2025/26, beating Curzon Ashton 4-0 and Leamington 4-1 before defeating Scarborough Athletic 4-2 in the play-off quarter-final. Their promotion bid eventually ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat away to South Shields in the semi-final.

Buxton vs Hebburn Town prediction

That record helps explain why bookmakers have been so keen to make Buxton strong favourites here.

But the opening three games of the new season have been less convincing.

Buxton began with a 2-1 home victory over Hereford before drawing 1-1 at Southport and then losing 2-1 away to Bedford Town in midweek.

Four points from nine is hardly disastrous, but it does not immediately justify treating an unbeaten Hebburn side as enormous outsiders.

There is also a major personnel issue.

Captain Connor Kirby suffered a broken leg against Hereford in Buxton’s opening match. Kirby was making his 204th appearance for the club and had missed only a handful of matches across four seasons, underlining just how important he has been to the side.

Replacing that level of leadership is difficult, particularly early in a new campaign.

Hebburn’s situation could hardly be more interesting.

The Hornets are playing at this level after winning the Northern Premier League Premier Division title in 2025/26, and there were legitimate questions over whether the jump in standard would expose them.

So far, it has not.

Daniel Moore’s side opened their campaign with an impressive 3-1 home victory over Southport.

Nine of the starting XI in that match had been part of the squad that won promotion, which is important because Hebburn have retained much of the core responsible for last season’s success rather than undertaking a complete rebuild.

Jake Charles immediately made an impact on his competitive debut, creating the opening goal for Matty Cornish before scoring himself, while another newcomer, Josh Donaldson, completed the victory late on.

Hebburn then faced a difficult first away match at Brackley.

Rather than collapsing against established opposition, they earned a 1-1 draw, with Charles again getting on the scoresheet.

Tuesday’s performance was arguably even more significant.

Worksop arrived at the Trustmark Group Stadium having won their opening two league matches and collecting six points from six.

Hebburn beat them 1-0, with Donaldson scoring the winner in the 82nd minute.

That leaves the newly-promoted side with:

7 points from 3 matches.

And they have conceded only two goals.

The summer recruitment also gives some encouragement.

Hebburn lost experienced defender Michael Turner and several loan players after promotion, but retained important members of the title-winning squad including Jack Donaghy, Matthew Elsdon, Robert Briggs, Ethan Wood and Callum Dobson.

They also added former Newcastle United academy forward Tom Allan, who arrived after spells with Gateshead, Darlington, Spennymoor and South Shields, giving them additional experience at this level.

This therefore looks nothing like a typical strong home favourite against an overwhelmed promoted side.

Hebburn are organised, confident and already producing results against teams accustomed to this division.

Why Hebburn Town +1 Asian Handicap Makes Sense

The price is the biggest reason I am interested in this market.

Buxton are capable of winning the match.

That is not what we are betting against.

With Hebburn +1 Asian Handicap, we have three favourable scenarios:

A Hebburn victory means a full win.

A draw means a full win.

If Buxton win by exactly one goal, the bet is void and our stake is returned.

Only a Buxton victory by two or more goals loses the bet.

At 2.10, that looks generous considering what Hebburn have shown so far.

The Hornets have already taken four points from games against Brackley and Worksop, with both opponents presenting serious tests at this level.

The Worksop result is particularly interesting.

Worksop had won both of their opening matches before travelling to Hebburn, yet the promoted side kept them scoreless and found a late winner.

Hebburn are therefore not simply collecting points against weak opposition.

They appear capable of competing immediately.

Buxton’s home advantage has to be respected, but their price has shortened dramatically despite taking only four points from nine and losing at Bedford in midweek.

Their captain’s serious injury is another reason to question whether the gap between these sides should really be as large as the market suggests.

There is also very little pressure on Hebburn.

Buxton are expected to win.

The promoted visitors can remain compact, frustrate the hosts and wait for opportunities in transition.

Even some independent statistical models are considerably less bullish on Buxton than the betting market. Forebet currently gives Hebburn the highest 1X2 probability of the three outcomes at 38%, compared with 30% for Buxton and 32% for the draw, while projecting a low-scoring contest. That model should not be treated as gospel, but it reinforces how unusual the market price looks.

A 1-1 draw is my preferred correct score.

At odds of 2.10, Hebburn +1 looks like one of the more interesting lower-league value plays of the weekend.

Team News

Buxton will be without captain Connor Kirby, whose broken leg represents a significant early-season blow.

Kirby suffered the injury during the 2-1 victory over Hereford and had been one of the club’s most reliable performers over the previous four seasons.

The Bucks nevertheless have plenty of attacking quality and finished last season strongly, so Hebburn cannot simply sit inside their own penalty area for 90 minutes.

Hebburn have retained much of the squad that won promotion.

Jack Donaghy, Matthew Elsdon, Robert Briggs, Ethan Wood and Callum Dobson were among those kept for the step up, giving Daniel Moore valuable continuity.

Jake Charles and Josh Donaldson have already made an impact after joining the team, while Tom Allan adds experience and another attacking option.

Players to Watch

Jake Charles

Charles has made an immediate impression at Hebburn.

He helped create Matty Cornish’s opener against Southport before scoring himself and then found the net again in the 1-1 draw at Brackley.

His ability to make an impact against National League North opposition is encouraging for a promoted team.

Josh Donaldson

Donaldson has already scored two important goals.

He sealed the opening-day victory against Southport before scoring the 82nd-minute winner against Worksop, making him one of Hebburn’s early-season difference-makers.

Matty Cornish

Cornish scored Hebburn’s first goal of the National League North season and was a key member of the promotion-winning squad.

His experience within Daniel Moore’s system gives the newcomers continuity in attacking areas.

Buxton’s Home Attack

Buxton should still pose a significant threat at the Silverlands.

They scored four goals against both Leamington and Scarborough during their excellent finish to last season, demonstrating what can happen if opponents allow them momentum at home.

Head-to-Head

This is a fresh matchup created by Hebburn’s promotion to National League North.

There is therefore no meaningful recent competitive head-to-head history to rely on.

That arguably makes current form and the handicap price even more important.

Buxton possess greater experience at this level, while Hebburn arrive with the momentum of a championship-winning campaign and an unbeaten beginning to their first season after promotion.

Final Verdict

The bookmakers clearly believe Buxton are significantly stronger than Hebburn.

I am not convinced the evidence from the opening weeks supports such a large difference.

Buxton remain a strong National League North side and reached the play-offs last season, but they have taken only four points from their opening three matches and have lost influential captain Connor Kirby.

Hebburn have done almost everything asked of them so far.

They beat Southport 3-1.

They earned a point away at Brackley.

And they then beat a Worksop side that had started with six points from six.

Seven points from nine following promotion deserves respect.

More importantly, we do not need Hebburn to win.

Hebburn +1 Asian Handicap gives us a full winner if the visitors win or draw and a refund if Buxton edge the match by exactly one goal.

At 2.10, that provides enough protection and upside to make the visitors our preferred betting angle.

The correct score prediction is Buxton 1-1 Hebburn Town.
