Elche welcome Real Madrid to the Martínez Valero on Tuesday night with Martín Anselmi’s side still searching for a first La Liga win of the season. The home side have taken two points from five matches, conceded 13 goals and sit 19th after a difficult opening run.

There was at least more defensive discipline in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Athletic Club. Elche defended deep, had only 33.4% possession and held out until late on, but this is another major test against a Madrid attack that has scored 14 league goals in five games.

José Mourinho’s Real Madrid arrive after a 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice and Jude Bellingham again on the scoresheet. Madrid do have a tight turnaround before the Atlético Madrid derby, but their attacking level should still prove too much for an Elche side which has lost both home matches this season.

Our prediction is Elche 0-3 Real Madrid, with Real Madrid -2 Asian Handicap at odds of 2.30 our best bet.

Match Preview

Elche’s season has started with a demanding set of opponents, including Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Athletic Club, but the numbers still make uncomfortable reading. They have scored six times and conceded 13 in five league outings, while their two home fixtures finished 0-5 against Barcelona and 2-3 against Real Sociedad.

Anselmi arrived with a reputation for front-foot football, wing-backs and flexible systems, yet he took a far more cautious route at San Mamés. The 4-4-1-1 shape kept the distances tight, with Federico Redondo adding protection in a deeper role and Facundo Buonanotte playing behind Fer Niño. That approach earned a point, although Elche created very little from open play and relied on Buonanotte’s penalty for their goal.

Matías Dituro made important saves against Athletic and will probably need another busy evening. Víctor Chust has been Elche’s main organiser at the back, while Gonzalo Villar is important if they are to retain the ball for any meaningful spells. Their route forward is likely to involve quick releases towards Germán Valera and Tete Morente, with Fer Niño asked to occupy Madrid’s centre-backs.

Real Madrid have been far more convincing in the final third. Mbappé has already scored six league goals, including a hat-trick against Real Sociedad and a brace against Rayo. Bellingham has scored in three league matches, while Vinícius Júnior remains a major source of pace and creativity from the left.

Mourinho’s recent 4-2-3-1 gives Madrid plenty of control before the attackers take over. Federico Valverde drives the midfield, Bernardo Silva has helped link the build-up and Bellingham moves into the spaces behind Mbappé. Álvaro Carreras was excellent against Rayo, winning a penalty and scoring, while Denzel Dumfries gives Madrid another aggressive option from right-back.

The one note of caution is Madrid’s schedule. This is their third match in eight days and Atlético Madrid await at the weekend, so Mourinho may make changes. Even so, he indicated that Mbappé, Bellingham and Vinícius could start again if their final fitness checks are clear. With that trio available, Madrid should create enough chances to put Elche under sustained pressure.

Why Real Madrid -2 Asian Handicap Makes Sense

Real Madrid are clear favourites, but the straight win is unlikely to offer much appeal. At 2.30, the Real Madrid -2 Asian Handicap gives a much better price for a side that has scored four goals against Málaga, Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano already this season.

The line needs to be understood properly. Madrid win the bet in full if they win by three goals or more. A two-goal Madrid victory returns the stake, while a draw, an Elche win or a one-goal Madrid victory loses. That push on a 0-2 result gives some useful protection without moving away from the expected away dominance.

Elche’s home defending is the main reason to back the handicap. They have conceded eight goals in two home league matches, and the transition from an ambitious new system to a more compact setup remains a work in progress. They did defend with greater resolve at Athletic, but they were pinned back for long periods and conceded 19 attempts.

Madrid’s pace around Mbappé and Vinícius can stretch any deep block, while Bellingham’s late runs create another problem for defenders who are already occupied by the centre-forward. Carreras and Dumfries can also force Elche’s wide players backwards, making it difficult for Anselmi’s team to get out.

The main risk is rotation and game management. Madrid were not at their sharpest after half-time against Rayo, and Mourinho will be conscious of the derby to come. Still, Elche have not kept a clean sheet in the league, and Madrid have the attacking firepower to turn control into a comfortable margin.

Team News

Elche remain without John Chetauya, who is recovering from a serious fibula problem. Pol Lirola and Nico Fernández are also on the club’s injury list. Josan was named among the substitutes against Athletic despite being listed with a muscular issue, so he may be available in some capacity.

Anselmi may keep faith with the compact side that drew at San Mamés. Thomas Lemar scored against Real Sociedad but has recently been used as an impact substitute, while Ezequiel Ponce, Abiel Osorio and Lucas Cepeda give Elche options if they need a different attacking threat.

Madrid are still without Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo. Raúl Asencio returned to the squad against Rayo, while Aurélien Tchouaméni is back involved after his absence and Mourinho has confirmed he will play some part at Elche. Bernardo Silva, Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Güler are strong alternatives if Mourinho rotates around the congested schedule.

Possible Starting Lineups

Players to Watch

Kylian Mbappé — Real Madrid

Mbappé is in outstanding early-season form with six league goals. His movement between centre-back and full-back is likely to be a major issue for an Elche defence that has already conceded heavily at home.

Jude Bellingham — Real Madrid

Bellingham gives Madrid something different from the No. 10 role. He arrives late in the box, links with Vinícius and Mbappé, and has scored against Espanyol, Málaga and Rayo this season.

Facundo Buonanotte — Elche

Buonanotte is Elche’s main creative player between the lines and converted the penalty at Athletic. If the home side are to threaten, his ability to carry the ball and connect with Fer Niño will matter.

Matías Dituro — Elche

Dituro made key interventions in the draw at San Mamés and faces another demanding night. Elche will need their captain to deal with the volume of shots Madrid are likely to create.

Head-to-Head

The most recent meeting finished Real Madrid 4-1 Elche at the Bernabéu in March 2026, with Antonio Rüdiger, Federico Valverde, Dean Huijsen and Arda Güler scoring for Madrid. The last meeting at the Martínez Valero was more competitive, ending Elche 2-2 Real Madrid in November 2025.

That draw shows Madrid cannot take the trip lightly, but Elche’s current defensive record is much poorer than it was for that previous home meeting.

Final Verdict

Elche deserve credit for their more disciplined performance at Athletic, but defending deep against Madrid for 90 minutes is an entirely different challenge. Their lack of a clean sheet, combined with Madrid’s early attacking output, points towards a long evening for the home defence.

Mourinho may manage minutes with Atlético Madrid ahead, which is the obvious danger for a big handicap. However, Madrid have enough depth and enough quality in the starting attack to make the -2 line worth backing at 2.30. I expect Elche to spend most of the match without the ball and Madrid to create the clearer chances.

Our correct-score prediction is Elche 0-3 Real Madrid.

FreeOddsTips Prediction

Madrid’s attacking quality should tell against an Elche side that has already shipped eight goals in two home league fixtures. The -2 Asian Handicap remains the stronger play because a two-goal victory returns the stake, while Madrid have every chance of winning by three or more.
