Fiorentina host Atalanta in Serie A on Thursday night with both sides bringing plenty of attacking potential but serious defensive concerns into the match. The Viola are stuck in the relegation zone after a poor opening eight games, while Atalanta have been just as unpredictable under new coach Maurizio Sarri.
Paolo Vanoli’s Fiorentina have lost their last three league matches, conceding seven times in the process. They did score in each of those defeats, though, and their recent games have rarely lacked incident.
Atalanta arrive after an extraordinary 4-4 draw with Frosinone, having also scored twice at Milan and three times against Venezia earlier this month. Nikola Krstović is in excellent scoring form, but Sarri’s depleted back line has struggled to protect leads.
FreeOddsTips is backing Asian Over 3.0 Goals at 2.00. Three goals would see the stake returned, while four or more goals produce a winner, which suits two teams whose recent matches have regularly opened up.
Match Preview
Fiorentina’s defensive problems have intensified at the wrong time. Marin Pongračić is out after coming off against Inter, Luca Ranieri remains doubtful and Vanoli could again have to rely on a makeshift central partnership. David de Gea made eight saves at Inter, underlining how much pressure the Viola have been absorbing.
Atalanta have their own selection problems at the back, with Raoul Bellanova, Isak Hien, Sead Kolašinac and Odilon Kossounou among the absentees. Sarri’s expected 4-2-3-1 still carries plenty of threat through Krstović, Charles De Ketelaere and the wide attackers, but the injury-hit defence gives Fiorentina a realistic route to a goal of their own.
The likely pattern is an open one if either side scores early. Fiorentina need points and cannot simply sit deep at home, while Atalanta’s recent matches have been stretched by turnovers and transition play. That makes the Asian three-goal line a sensible way to attack a fixture with a clear route to a 1-3 away win.
