Fulham host Hull at Craven Cottage on Saturday 17 October with pressure already building around Álvaro Arbeloa’s new side. The Cottagers are bottom of the Premier League after six matches, still without a league win, and their latest defeat at Ipswich was especially damaging after they surrendered a second-half lead.
Hull arrive in a far healthier position following promotion. Sergej Jakirovic’s team are eighth with nine points from six games and have made a habit of staying in matches through a compact, physical 5-4-1 shape. They will not expect to dominate the ball in west London, but that is rarely the point of their approach.
Fulham have enough technical quality to control territory through Sander Berge, Alex Iwobi, Oscar Bobb and Josh King, yet they have repeatedly failed to turn promising positions into points. Seven goals conceded in three home league matches and late collapses against Crystal Palace and Ipswich leave obvious doubts about their ability to see out a narrow game.
Our FreeOddsTips prediction is Hull Asian Handicap +0.5 at 2.60. The line pays if Hull win or draw, and the visitors’ organisation looks well suited to frustrating a young Fulham team that is still searching for composure when games become tense. A 1-1 draw is the predicted score.
Match Preview
Fulham should have more possession against Hull’s low-possession system, but that alone has not been enough for Arbeloa’s side. The hosts have created chances this season, including 25 attempts in the defeat to Crystal Palace, but they have conceded in five of six league matches and have struggled badly with direct, physical pressure late in games. Antonee Robinson remains doubtful, so Ryan Sessegnon may again be needed at left-back.
Hull’s model is clear. Their back five stays narrow, the midfield four protects central areas, and Oli McBurnie gives them a target for early passes and second balls. Sorba Thomas offers a transition outlet, while Mohamed Belloumi’s three goals and two assists make him difficult to leave out after his equaliser against Everton. Nobel Mendy’s injury weakens the visitors’ defensive depth, but their collective structure still gives them a real route to a point.
Fulham have the players to score, particularly if Iwobi and Bobb can isolate Hull’s wing-backs, but this feels more likely to be a testing afternoon than a routine home win. Hull have already drawn at Chelsea and taken points through disciplined performances, making the away side with a half-goal start the sensible position.
