Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday 10 October with both teams still searching for a convincing early-season rhythm. Michael Carrick’s side sit 12th after taking five points from five league matches, while Spurs arrive bottom of the table without a Premier League win.
Goals are the obvious angle. United have scored 14 times across seven competitive matches but have kept only one clean sheet, while Tottenham’s latest league game finished in a chaotic 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa after they finally found their attacking edge late on.
Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha give United enough invention and movement to trouble a Spurs defence facing selection concerns. At the other end, Dominic Solanke, Omar Marmoush and Sávio are capable of exploiting a United back line that has conceded in six of seven competitive fixtures.
FreeOddsTips’ prediction is Over 2.5 Goals & BTTS Yes at 1.85. A 2-1 Manchester United win is the expected score, but the main appeal is a match in which neither defence looks equipped to dominate for 90 minutes.
Match Preview
United created 29 attempts in their 1-1 draw at Fulham last time out, with Cunha scoring a late equaliser after Bruno Fernandes had struck the post. Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 has plenty of attacking connections, especially when Fernandes can find space between midfield and defence, but recent games have repeatedly exposed problems after turnovers and at key defensive moments.
Tottenham have been short of goals in the league, scoring only twice in five matches, but both came in their latest outing against Aston Villa. Roberto De Zerbi’s side created early chances through Sávio, Solanke and Sandro Tonali before late goals from Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke. That attacking intent can cause problems at Old Trafford, although Pedro Porro is ruled out and central-defensive doubts add to Spurs’ vulnerability.
The game could open up if United establish pressure on Tottenham’s makeshift right side, forcing Gray and the visiting midfield to defend deep. Spurs should still have opportunities in transition, particularly if Solanke can occupy United’s centre-backs and create room for Marmoush or Sávio. That combination of attacking talent and unreliable defending supports a goals-based selection.
