PSG begin their Champions League title defence at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, with Slovan Bratislava arriving for league-phase Matchday 1. Luis Enrique’s side are two-time reigning European champions, but they come into this game needing a response after a poor domestic start.
Paris have taken only two points from their first three Ligue 1 matches and lost 2-1 at home to Monaco on Friday despite leading through Marquinhos. The performances have still carried plenty of attacking intent, though, and this looks like a perfect opportunity for PSG to get back to winning ways against opponents facing a massive jump in level.
Slovan have earned their place here through an impressive qualifying run, beating Iberia 1999, Mjällby and Celje. Yaya Touré’s men have won seven of their last 10 competitive games, but consecutive league defeats to Michalovce and DAC Dunajská Streda have come at a bad time before a trip to Paris.
The class difference is enormous. PSG should dominate the ball, pin Slovan deep and create chances from the first whistle. Our prediction is 5-0, with PSG Asian Handicap -3.5 at odds of 2.15 our best bet.

Match Preview
PSG’s early Ligue 1 record does not look like that of European champions. They have drawn at Rennes and Lille, then surrendered a lead against Monaco, while six goals conceded in three league games has left Luis Enrique unhappy with the results. His description of the opening weeks as catastrophic underlines the standards at the club.
That said, the Monaco defeat was not short of attacking pressure. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia created Marquinhos’s opener and was PSG’s standout performer, while Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, Maghnes Akliouche and the substitutes all helped Paris spend long spells around Monaco’s box. A disallowed Ferran Torres goal and a late Ousmane Dembélé effort were further signs that PSG are still finding chances even when results have gone against them.
Luis Enrique has enough quality to change the picture quickly. Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué can swap positions and attack from wide areas, Dembélé offers another elite one-v-one threat, and Ferran Torres has already scored twice in Ligue 1. Behind them, Vitinha, João Neves and Fabián Ruiz should control possession and keep feeding runners between Slovan’s defensive and midfield lines. Hakimi’s forward bursts from right-back can make that side especially difficult to defend.
Slovan arrive with a more positive recent record overall. Their 7-1-2 record across the last 10 competitive matches includes an 8-0 Slovnaft Cup win and four away wins from their latest five trips. They also showed real character to get past Celje after extra time in the Champions League play-off round.
However, Touré’s team have now lost their last two Niké Liga matches. They were beaten 2-0 by DAC Dunajská Streda on Saturday, conceding twice after the 78th minute, having already lost 2-1 at home to Zemplín Michalovce. Their domestic league form has left them fourth after six games, and Paris is an entirely different test from anything encountered in Slovakia or qualifying.
Slovan’s most likely route to an upset is to stay compact, use the work of Peter Pokorný and Cristian Martínez in midfield, then release Tigran Barseghyan and Alasana Yirajang quickly around Andraž Šporar. Šporar and Yirajang have both scored twice in qualifying, so PSG cannot be careless when they lose the ball. Still, Slovan will spend far more time defending than attacking, and Dominik Takáč, Kenan Bajrić and Kevin Wimmer could be under sustained pressure.

Why PSG Asian Handicap -3.5 Makes Sense
PSG are not just favourites here; they should have the territorial control and attacking depth to turn this into a one-sided night. The straight PSG win would naturally be very short, so the handicap gives us a much better price at 2.15.
For this bet to land, Paris need to win by four or more goals. A 4-0, 5-0 or 5-1 result is enough, while a three-goal PSG victory is not. That is an aggressive line, but it makes sense when the reigning European champions are at home against a side whose recent defensive work has been tested by domestic opponents.
The key is PSG’s ability to keep creating different types of chances. Kvaratskhelia and Doué can pull defenders out of shape, Hakimi attacks the overlap, and Fabián Ruiz has already supplied two assists for Ferran this season. If Dembélé starts, or is introduced against tired legs, Slovan have another difficult forward to contain. Paris do not need one player to carry the scoring burden.
Slovan have conceded in five of their last six matches excluding the cup win over Nitra-Chrenová, and their latest two league defeats came immediately before this trip. Their away record is strong on paper, but wins at Mjällby, Košice and Celje do not compare with trying to survive at the Parc des Princes against this level of opponent.
The obvious risk is PSG’s own defensive form. They have conceded in each of their last five competitive matches, while Šporar, Yirajang and Barseghyan offer Slovan a counter-attacking outlet. Yet the scoreline should depend mainly on whether Slovan can withstand PSG’s pressure for 90 minutes. At 2.15, I expect Paris to make the gulf in class count.

Team News
PSG can restore Nuno Mendes at left-back after he missed the Monaco defeat through a domestic suspension. Warren Zaïre-Emery filled in on the left of defence in that match, but he is naturally a midfield option. Lucas Digne and Quentin Ndjantou were absent from the Monaco matchday group, although no confirmed medical detail was attached to those absences.
Safonov started PSG’s latest game, while Lucas Chevalier is another senior goalkeeping option. Luis Enrique also has selection decisions in attack after using Ferran Torres, Akliouche, Mika Godts and Dembélé from the bench against Monaco. The Champions League opener may be the occasion to field a stronger front line and make a statement after the domestic disappointment.
Slovan have no confirmed injury absences or suspensions for this fixture. Touré can draw from a Champions League-registered group that includes Takáč, Blackman, Bajrić, Wimmer, Martínez, Pokorný, Barseghyan, Šporar, Yirajang, Suleiman Camara and Roman Čerepkai. Some domestic options are not on the UEFA A-list, so Touré’s European selection will not necessarily mirror every recent league squad.
Possible Starting Lineups
PSG Possible XI

Slovan Bratislava Possible XI

Players to Watch
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia — PSG
Kvaratskhelia has already scored against Aston Villa and created PSG’s goal against Monaco this season. His ability to beat a full-back and produce the final ball could quickly open up a Slovan defence likely to sit very deep.
Ferran Torres — PSG
Ferran scored twice on his Ligue 1 debut at Rennes and is PSG’s leading league scorer so far. Whether he starts or comes on, his movement in the penalty area gives Paris another route to the four-goal margin required.
Andraž Šporar — Slovan Bratislava
Šporar has two Champions League qualifying goals, including one away to Celje. Slovan will have limited possession, but he is their clearest focal point if they can turn a clearance or a counter into a meaningful attack.
Cristian Martínez — Slovan Bratislava
Martínez scored the decisive extra-time goal in the Celje tie and assisted in the first leg. His energy and composure in midfield will matter if Slovan are to resist PSG’s pressing and connect defence with attack.
Head-to-Head
The clubs have met twice before, in the 2011/12 Europa League group stage. Slovan held PSG to a 0-0 draw in Bratislava on 20 October 2011, before Paris won 1-0 at the Parc des Princes on 3 November, with Javier Pastore scoring the only goal. Those meetings are too old to carry much weight for this game, but Slovan have never scored against PSG.
Final Verdict
PSG have made a poor start by their standards, but that can sharpen rather than weaken their approach to this Champions League opener. Luis Enrique’s side have too much quality across midfield and attack for Slovan to handle if they play close to their level.
Slovan deserve credit for reaching the league phase and have enough pace to test PSG on the break. The main risk is an away goal, particularly given Paris have not kept a clean sheet in Ligue 1 yet. Even so, I expect PSG to monopolise the ball, create a heavy volume of chances and return to winning ways in emphatic fashion.
PSG Asian Handicap -3.5 at 2.15 remains the best bet, with a 5-0 correct-score prediction.
FreeOddsTips Prediction
PSG should use this opening Champions League tie to reset after their frustrating domestic results. Slovan may compete early on, but Paris have the pace, creativity and depth to pull clear once the game opens up.
The handicap is demanding, yet it reflects the scale of the mismatch and offers a far more appealing price than the straight home win. Back PSG to cover, with a convincing home performance expected.
