Match Preview
Sporting have settled quickly under Rui Borges despite a summer of change. Their 4-2-3-1 has brought a good mix of control and direct attacking football, with the back four encouraged to play through pressure rather than simply clear their lines. Galatasaray will not arrive to sit deep. Buruk wants his team to press high, keep possession and commit players forward, as they did in the first half of the 3-2 win at Başakşehir. Lucas Torreira protects the midfield, Gabriel Sara carries much of the creative burden and Aleksey Batrakov can operate in the spaces behind the front line. Leroy Sané, Yunus Akgün and Barış Alper Yılmaz still give the Turkish champions plenty of pace and invention.
Yet the absences change the picture. Osimhen is not merely Galatasaray’s leading scorer; he is their focal point, an outlet under pressure and a major presence at set pieces. Lemina’s injury also takes away a player Buruk can use in midfield or defence, while Singo’s absence leaves fewer natural solutions on the right side of the back line. Galatasaray have conceded twice in three of their four league matches, and Sporting have the movement to expose those issues.
Galatasaray’s domestic away record this season is impressive, with seven goals scored across wins at Erzurumspor and Başakşehir. European travel has been a different story, though.
