Real Madrid welcome Inter Milan to the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday night in one of the standout fixtures of Champions League Matchday 1.
José Mourinho’s side suffered their first defeat of the season on Friday, losing 1-0 away to Real Betis, but the performance was better than the scoreline suggests. Madrid created 3.46 xG, dominated territory and still generated enough chances to win comfortably despite failing to score.
Inter arrive in excellent form after completing a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Napoli, having trailed 2-0 before Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram helped turn the game around. Cristian Chivu’s side have now won all three of their opening Serie A matches.
This has all the ingredients for an open, high-quality Champions League contest. Madrid’s attacking talent at home should eventually prove decisive, but Inter are in enough form to contribute.
Our best bet is Real Madrid to Win & Over 3.5 Goals at odds of 3.50, with a 3-1 home victory our correct-score prediction.

Match Preview
Real Madrid’s perfect domestic start came to an abrupt end at the Benito Villamarín.
After beating Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Málaga in their opening three La Liga fixtures, Mourinho’s team lost 1-0 to Real Betis on Friday.
The result looked poor, but the underlying numbers tell a different story.
Madrid registered 20 shots, controlled nearly 59% possession and produced around 3.46 xG, yet somehow failed to score. Kylian Mbappé hit the crossbar and later had a stoppage-time penalty saved.
That makes this less of a crisis and more of a finishing issue.
Before the Betis defeat, Madrid had scored 10 goals across their opening three league matches, including four against both Real Sociedad and Málaga.

The bigger concern for Mourinho is the midfield.
Madrid will be without Arda Güler, Bernardo Silva and Eduardo Camavinga through suspension, while Aurélien Tchouaméni has only recently returned to training after injury and may not be ready to start.
That forces Mourinho to improvise.
Jude Bellingham could drop into a deeper role alongside Federico Valverde, while Brahim Díaz may operate centrally behind Kylian Mbappé. Vinícius Júnior should retain his place on the left.
Inter arrive in far more settled mood.
The Serie A champions opened with a 4-1 win over Monza, followed that with a 1-0 victory at Cagliari and then produced one of the most dramatic performances of the new season against Napoli.
Trailing 2-0, Inter fought back to win 3-2, with Lautaro Martínez scoring twice, including the stoppage-time winner.
Three league matches have therefore produced nine points and eight goals.
Inter’s attacking output is especially relevant to our bet.
They have now scored at least twice in 11 of their last 13 competitive matches, while Lautaro remains one of Europe’s most dangerous penalty-box forwards.
There is also a tactical reason to expect chances.
Madrid’s depleted midfield could make it harder for Mourinho’s side to control transitions, while Inter’s 3-5-2 structure gives them multiple routes to attack through Lautaro, Pio Esposito, Barella and the wing-backs.
At the other end, Inter must deal with Mbappé and Vinícius at the Bernabéu.
That is a difficult assignment for any defence.
Why Real Madrid to Win & Over 3.5 Goals Makes Sense
At 3.50, this is obviously a higher-risk selection, but the price reflects that.
The first part of the bet is Madrid to win.
Their Champions League record at home is exceptional. Real have won 14 of their last 16 home group or league-phase matches, while they have also won 17 of their last 19 Matchday 1 fixtures.
The head-to-head numbers are even stronger.
Madrid have won eight of their nine home meetings with Inter and have won the last four H2Hs overall. They have also won their last seven home games against Inter.
Then there is the goals angle.
Real Madrid’s last 18 Champions League group or league-phase matches have produced 76 goals, an extraordinary average of 4.2 goals per match.
Inter also look capable of contributing.
They have failed to score in only two of their last 19 Champions League matches, while their current domestic form is excellent.
The key question is whether Inter can score at least once.
I think they can.
Madrid’s midfield absences remove some of their normal control, while Inter arrive with Lautaro in top form and confidence after scoring three times against Napoli.
Madrid should still have too much at home, but this could easily turn into the type of game where both teams create enough chances to push the total beyond three goals.
Our 3-1 prediction fits the bet perfectly.

Team News
Real Madrid have several important absentees.
Arda Güler, Bernardo Silva and Eduardo Camavinga are suspended, significantly weakening Mourinho’s midfield options.
Aurélien Tchouaméni has returned to training but remains unlikely to start after a spell out, while Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy, Raúl Asencio, Thiago Pitarch, Endrick and Rodrygo have also been reported unavailable.
Jude Bellingham could therefore be used in a deeper role alongside Federico Valverde.
Inter have fewer problems.
Djed Spence has returned to training but may not be ready to start, while Federico Dimarco remains a doubt after suffering a knee issue against Napoli.
Lautaro Martínez should lead the attack, with Pio Esposito expected alongside him.
Possible Starting Lineups
Real Madrid:
Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Rüdiger, Huijsen, Cucurella; Valverde, Bellingham; Diomandé, Brahim Díaz, Vinícius Júnior; Mbappé
Inter Milan:
Josep Martínez; Pavard, Akanji, Bastoni; Luis Henrique, Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Sucic, Carlos Augusto; Pio Esposito, Lautaro Martínez
Players to Watch
Kylian Mbappé — Real Madrid
Mbappé remains the obvious danger.
He scored four goals across Madrid’s opening three league matches before enduring a frustrating night against Betis, where he missed several chances and had a late penalty saved.
That makes him especially dangerous here.
Elite forwards often respond quickly after a poor finishing performance, and Inter cannot afford to give Mbappé repeated opportunities inside the penalty area.
He also enters the match with 22 Champions League goals in 25 appearances for Real Madrid, according to the supplied match data.
Lautaro Martínez — Inter Milan
Lautaro arrives in outstanding form.
The Inter captain scored twice against Napoli and completed the comeback with a stoppage-time winner.
His movement between Madrid’s centre-backs could be one of Inter’s most important attacking weapons, particularly if Madrid commit bodies forward.
Head-to-Head
Real Madrid have dominated this fixture historically.
The clubs have met 19 times, with Madrid winning 10 and Inter seven.
At the Bernabéu, Madrid have won eight of nine meetings, losing only once.
Madrid have also won the last four head-to-head meetings:
Real Madrid 2-0 Inter
Inter 0-1 Real Madrid
Inter 0-2 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 3-2 Inter
More importantly, Madrid have won their last seven home games against Inter.
Inter’s record in Spain is also poor. They are winless in their last 13 away matches against Spanish opposition, drawing four and losing nine.
Final Verdict
This looks like one of the most entertaining games of Champions League Matchday 1.
Real Madrid are weakened in midfield, but they still possess an elite front line and created enough chances to score several times against Betis despite losing 1-0.
The Bernabéu should also make a major difference.
Madrid’s Champions League home record is exceptional, and the historical matchup strongly favours them.
But I do not expect Inter to disappear.
Chivu’s side have won their opening three Serie A matches, produced a superb comeback against Napoli and have enough attacking quality through Lautaro, Barella and their wide players to punish Madrid’s weakened midfield structure.
That is why I prefer the bigger price rather than simply backing the home win.
Real Madrid to Win & Over 3.5 Goals at 3.50 gives us exposure to what I expect to be an open match.
Madrid should ultimately have too much individual quality at home, but Inter are capable of helping this game reach four goals.
Our correct-score prediction is Real Madrid 3-1 Inter Milan.
