Match Preview
Stuttgart’s league opener got away from them quickly after Josha Vagnoman equalised early in the second half. Bayern restored their lead three minutes later and eventually won 5-1, finishing with 21 attempts and an expected-goals figure of 4.07. Hoeneß will be especially concerned by the way four goals followed Stuttgart’s equaliser.
There were still some encouraging attacking moments. Tiago Tomás hit the crossbar, Stuttgart registered 11 shots and the front line caused Bayern problems before the score became one-sided. Köln have opened the season with far more momentum. They trailed Hoffenheim twice but responded after Wagner adjusted his side at half-time. Said El Mala scored the first equaliser, Marvin Schwäbe saved a penalty and Dallinga’s late brace completed a 3-2 comeback.
The performance also showed the options available to Wagner. Ragnar Ache brings strength and pressing as the starting striker, while Dallinga offers sharper movement inside the penalty area. El Mala can carry the ball directly from the left, Jan Thielmann attacks from the opposite side and Linton Maina has created goals from the bench in both competitive matches this season.
Köln’s midfield is still developing after a busy summer. Tom Krauß and Ísak Jóhannesson have started both games, with Jóhannesson scoring twice in the cup. Ellyes Skhiri adds experience and could make his first start, giving Köln more control when Stuttgart try to press through the middle.
Wagner has used both 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 shapes, but the theme has been the same: direct running, flexible midfield positions and a willingness to commit players forward. With Köln yet to keep a clean sheet and Stuttgart needing a positive home performance, a cautious contest looks unlikely.

Why Over 3.5 Goals Makes Sense
This is a high line, but the recent scoring numbers justify it. Stuttgart’s last 10 competitive matches have produced 42 total goals, an average of 4.20 per game. Köln’s equivalent sequence has contained 41, with René Wagner’s team scoring in every match but failing to record a single clean sheet.
The shorter Over 2.5 Goals market is clearly the safer option, but it is unlikely to offer the same value. At 1.95, Over 3.5 Goals becomes more interesting because these sides have enough attacking options to push the game beyond three goals. The bet wins if the match contains four or more.
Stuttgart should take the initiative in their first home league game. Their full-backs are encouraged to get forward, Stiller looks for progressive passes and the attacking midfielders move close to the centre-forward. That can overwhelm teams, but the 5-1 defeat in Munich showed how exposed Stuttgart can become when attacks break down.

Stuttgart remain without Dennis Seimen, Justin Diehl, Nikolas Nartey and Dan-Axel Zagadou. Chris Führich is doubtful after suffering a muscular problem in the cup victory at Rostock, while Lorenz Assignon, Luca Jaquez and Leo Sauer also have fitness concerns.
Fabian Bredlow should therefore continue in goal, with Vagnoman, Finn Jeltsch, Jeff Chabot and Mittelstädt available to form a back four. Jamie Leweling has returned to first-team action and could start, while El Khannouss is pushing for a place after appearing as a substitute in both opening games.
Köln are monitoring Said El Mala and Thijs Dallinga after both missed Wednesday’s training session through illness. Their availability will be checked close to kick-off. Timo Hübers remains in rehabilitation with a knee injury.
Sebastian Sebulonsen and Luca Waldschmidt have returned to team training, although their readiness to start is uncertain. Deadline additions Mikey Moore and Borna Sosa only completed their first Köln training session on Wednesday, making substitute roles more likely if they are included.
